Bob Crowley - Survivor: Gabon

July 27 2015

AFFS chatted to 'Survivor: Gabon' winner, and the oldest Survivor winner ever, Mr Bob Crowley ...

AFSS: Today I have the distinct pleasure of being joined by the winner of 'Survivor: Gabon', Bob Crowley.

Bob Crowley: It is my pleasure.

Bob, I understand that you’ve been incredibly busy lately could you let your fans know what you’re currently working on?

I'm working on the yurt campground but what's keeping me really busy is the Durham warriors challenge...which is a four day Survivor like game.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the Durham Warriors Challenge?

Eighteen Americans do eighteen challenges with 14 tribal councils over four days.

Were you a fan of Survivor prior to your time on the show?

I watched all the Survivor shows that Maine people played in.

A real highlight for me Bob, was the emotion and excitement that you showed when your wife Peggy appeared on the show. Could you talk us through how you were feeling at that moment?

I thought I would only be able to see a video of Peg. It was a really cool surprise having her sneak out from behind a tree. For me it was my second favorite moment of the show...after winning.

Not long after the show ended, you stated that you would fly your wife back over to Gabon, and give her the honeymoon that she never had.

Is this something that you have done?

The ambassador has invited us back but we have not been able to make it work yet. So we went Down Under instead and had an awesome visit with the Kiwis and Aussies.

How did you enjoy your time here in Australia?

The only thing better than Australia are the Aussies that live there! Peg and I loved Australia!

You seemed really disappointed with yourself when Kenny defeated you in the Mathematics based portion of a challenge. Did you underestimate just how much of an affect hunger and fatigue would have on your mind?

The math challenge was a great example of what a lack of sleep and food can do to anyone. I could have never figured out the answer because I missed the instructions. To make matters worse ... Peg and I watched that episode at school with 200 students. A "teachable moment", I told the students I lost because I was tired, hungry, and I didn't follow directions. So don't come to school tired and hungry .... and when you get there follow directions.

You definitely held your own (the only person to win five consecutive individual challenges and the game of Survivor) did you surprise yourself with how much you were able to endure physically?

I knew I was in pretty good shape for an old man. I think I did surprise some of my fellow castaways with my endurance. It is a tough game, but I was just having a great time.

When you look back at that final tribal council for Survivor: Gabon, the Jury was pretty “bitter”, were you expecting them do be so hostile? Do you recall how that felt at the time?

I was surprised at how bitter Kenny and others were at tribal council. But it must be tough to be beaten by an old man that was not a Survivor expert.

With the upcoming Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance season, are their any former contestants that you would like to see receive a second chance?

Troyzan comes to mind right off. Jimmy T. the great dory rower. I was happy to see Terry D. on the list.

Chris Daugherty recently told me that he would love to see an “All Winners” season of Survivor, is that something you would be interested in Bob?

I'd agree with Chris. I'd stop typing right now and leave for another chance at the "Greatest Show on Earth". I'd love to head out again.

Thank you so much for your time Bob.

Good Day mate.
